Acidified Copper Sulphate Impacts..

Many dairy farms are using acidified copper sulphate in their footbaths.

While it is an excellent product for benefit when properly used, there is a negative impact on the mortar of the concrete in the bath.

This farm had installed rubber flooring (animat) in the holding area and one return alley as an experiment to see if animal flow would improve. However, the other alley was left alone. The trimmer noticed that despite good conditions and care there were still a significant amount of animals with a walking on eggshells type walk. This was the result of an investigation of the entire environment of a 150 cow free stall herd. Once this small piece of negative impact was discovered, it was dealt with immediately by the placement of rubber and the problem was resolved. So if you are using ACS please make sure you monitor the footbath structures integrity and use your hand to feel any sharp points.
