The Milk Inspector and Hoof Care.

Regarding hoof care, where fieldstaff have required that a producer trim the over-grown hooves of animals, we will ensure that we not return for at least 30 days.

By way of background, if a farm is inspected one month, we will not go back before the end of the next month. This will effectively mean that you have at least 30 days. If an inspection occurred at the start of a month, you could have as long as 60 days. It is the responsibility of the producer to advise the DFO fieldperson when the hoof trimming will take place.

Section 5 (1) (iii) of Regulation 761 under the Ontario Milk Act states that: "No person shall sell or offer for sale milk or cream that is obtained from an animal that is not in good physical condition and free from any illness or disease that adversely affects the quality or flavour of the milk or cream."

This is the regulation we refer to regarding hoof care.
