Preparing Cattle Foot Health for Winter

With fall quickly approaching and the end of a busy cropping season comes, I would remind farmers that fall is a good time to have your cows feet examined. Either by yourself (with proper restraining equipment) or have a professional hoof trimmer come in. For pasture cows, its good to ensure no stones, cracks or bruising are left to negatively influence milk production by creating unwanted sore feet, especially with fall milk incentives. Fall trimming is also best if your facilities dictate that your trimmer must work outside before the heavy winter sets in and the yards become to slippery for the safe movement of animals.

Make sure you have adequate help and a few extra gates to move cattle, and keep a sharp edge on your tools. If you have never trimmed feet but are considering it and want your herd examined, or have any questions please feel free to call:
